GA Broadcasting
20.0 hrs Service Hours

Broadcasting caught my interest over the summer, and I decided to reach out to Ms. Martin about trying out broadcasting. went tight into it with football the first week of school, and then the rest is history. Over time, I called games, reached out to players, met with prominent broadcasters and conducted interviews with people from ESPN and the Cavs. I loved the experience so much, and the connection with all the sports teams that I was able to find my passion through this service for the school.

Are the service hours you completed COMPETENCE HOURS (learning about social justice issues) or COURAGE HOURS (direct or indirect service to others)?

COURAGE

Which Gilmour charism (Divine Providence, Forgiveness, Hope, Hospitality, Inclusiveness, Option for the Poor, The Cross, Zeal) did you best live out through your service experience? Please explain.

I like to pick zeal for all my service, for I wish to put my best foot forward in any task I do, and for my utmost passion through this service, I worked tirelessly to bring the Gilmour community closer together through sports.

Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?

Absolutely. Hopefully, I have the opportunity to do this job, for service or a living, for the rest of my life. It is one of my lifes greatest joys.

Track Team Socials
27.0 hrs Service Hours

Coach Johnson approached me asking for me to be involved with the team still, even if I was busy commentating. I decided to run the socials for the team for select meets, and bonded with the team as they progressed through the season.

I would, it was a good bonding experience that kept me engaged with the coach, team, and teammates I have grown to become really close with for the last two years.

Oberlin Service Trip
8.0 hrs Service Hours

The Oberlin trip started early in the morning, and was not that long of a drive to the town of Oberland. We spent the majority of the day touring the small but charming town, and learning about the town's important history in the underground railroad. It helped that Doringo was the counselor and had plenty of input. Overall, I think the trip showed me the importance of how the North was very involved in the process of freedom, and carry that on with me now.

Are the service hours you completed COMPETENCE HOURS (learning about social justice issues) or COURAGE HOURS (direct or indirect service to others)?

COMPETENCE

Which Gilmour charism (Divine Providence, Forgiveness, Hope, Hospitality, Inclusiveness, Option for the Poor, The Cross, Zeal) did you best live out through your service experience? Please explain.

First, both competence and courage services were performed on the trip, but the majority were competent. The group exhibited Inclusiveness and hospitality, in learning about the social justice issues in the town of Oberlin, and, inturn, how to respond living the Gilmour mission.

Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?

I would, the experience was stellar and was not a huge commitment like the other trips. It was a beautiful day, and the topics were interesting and the town was cute with great food.

REVISIONS REQUESTED

Sorry, not service.  Log this for Vector...

Mrs. Ryan reached out to me to help plan for the upcoming meeting with Danburgs to talk sports communications, and we had a meeting for me to put some input in what I think students would want to hear. We then had the meeting and learned many things about sports communications and networking.

C2AC Freshman Orientation
6.0 hrs Service Hours

I joined the Courage to Act Crew to be able to help freshman feel welcome to the Gilmour family. I got to know many new freshmen and be a person they could rely on. Whether I was escorting them to brand new place, or explaining helpful tips for the school year, I was seeing Jesus in each of them individually.

Freshman Foodbank Trip
Freshman Reflection

The trip to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank was one of contemplation more than anything else. The video we watched at school really allowed me to see what my actions at the food bank were doing to serve the community. I felt great knowing my energy went to feeding people who needed it more than I did. While walking around the line to fill bags, I thought about the struggles people faced, and it sparked an attitude to really make me want to serve people more in my community. This trip raised awareness, made me a bigger servant of God, and allowed me to want to serve my community more than ever.

Gilmour Food Drive
2.0 hrs Service Hours

Loading the cars was a fun and pensive experience where I felt glad that so many people would enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. The service felt more heartful due to the classic Ohio weather helping out in the process, leaving me cold and wet. That made me thankful for another thing people don't have, shelter.

COURAGE

Which Gilmour charism (Divine Providence, Forgiveness, Hope, Hospitality, Inclusiveness, Option for the Poor, The Cross, Zeal) did you best live out through your service experience? Please explain.

I exhibited option for the poor, for I helped those around the community who lacked something important. Through the kind deeds of myself and others, I have brought faith and hope to many people who lack it.

Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?

I would do this experience again, it always opens my eyes to what I should be thankful for during that season.

Gilmour Track Gardening Service
1.0 hrs Service Hours

After practice, I decided to head over to the garden with some other members of the team to better understand the part of the campus as well as engage and better get to know my teammates. We got a brief rundown after a warm welcome of what we were supposed to do, that being raking out weeds and loading the bins and piles with compost. Every bin I worked with a different teammate and the extra teamwork went a long way to better grow with them personally and as a team. As we finished, we cleaned up and headed inside for some team lunch.

I embraced inclusiveness the most in the sense that I grew with my peers in understanding and better integrating myself into the Gilmour community. Through my actions, the whole school grows closer through the garden and the work I put in with the team.

Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?

I would like to do this activity again since gardening to me is a very fun activity with fruitful results, no pun intended. It ios a group activity that has always let me know people through work better, and I am always open to more opportunities like this one.

St Helen Harvest Workers 2022
25.0 hrs Service Hours

The goal of harvest workers is to serve God in the community around us and serve Him in each other in the process. Harvest workers consisted of five days of service around the neighborhood and plenty of sacred time to see the Lord in adoration, communion, and reconciliation. The first day of harvest workers consisted of early icebreakers, even though we all knew each other in our group quite well, and then walking around the neighborhoods doing a scavenger hunt, and finally, once we were settled we walked around the same neighborhoods collecting food items for the homeless, which ended in a surplus of supplies for everyone. Our group didn’t get as many items as well as others, but the experience really showed me how generous some people were, and also helped my social confidence when it came to asking for help. After all the items were sorted and organized, there was downtime and dinner, where we all shared our experiences together.

Coming in fresh the next day, our groups got assignments on who we would be serving in the community that day. This would repeat every day. That day, we were to go to a Christmas village for the ill. The man who ran the whole experience was the sweetest man I had ever met, and he looked like a replica of Santa. That was the whole gimmick, but Santa really does mean a lot to every kid. Even though there was this whole magical village filled with wonder, we had the duty of cleaning out barns and organizing haystacks. It was still a great experience that took almost the whole day to complete, but in the end, we got some treats from “Mrs. Claus” and left with a feeling of charity as we knew we had helped Santa create a better and amazing experience for the ill. I would go back every day if I could. The day concluded with a meal with everyone at the church and we even stayed the night there that night. To better help us understand what the homeless go through, we were challenged to sleep outside in a cardboard bow. I attempted but fled inside when the bugs were becoming too numerous. In conclusion, I definitely understood better the situation I was contributing to.

Waking up the next day, we were given the opportunity to better grow ourselves in our own community as a church. On this day, we held mass by the beach and had a cookout with the Parish. It was a great experience. Afterward, we went shopping with a budget to buy the ingredients needed for us to cook dinner for someone in the Parish who may not always be able to help themselves. I’m not the biggest culinary expert, but the experience left me a little more skilled and more importantly glad I had fed some mouths. On this night, we held adoration; a great chance for reflection that allowed me to really see who I was and what I was doing. I would probably call this day my favorite, though all were great.

On the final day, we went to our advisor's dad’s house, who was recently grieving from a loss, along with our advisor. We did yard work such as mowing the lawn, mulching, splitting, and storing wood. We were treated to a nice lunch made by him, and then we sat down and shared some stories. It was really special to serve someone our advisor was so close to, and to help someone when they are in a tough time really made the experience worth every drop of sweat.

Heading back to the Church to wrap up the experience was bittersweet, but it helped me remember all the help and service I gave and made me look forward to all the service I would be performing in the following years.

I lived out the Charism of Zeal the best. Zeal to me means making God known, loved, and served through my own will, and my want to serve Him instead of being advised or forced to. Joining the service program was a choice I made and I’m glad I did, for I got to make God better known all across Geauga County and in the church community. We even helped some people who were not Catholic, so I hope that by my actions, those people can see the loving works of God through service.

Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?

I would love to do this service again, and I’m already signed up to do so in the upcoming summer. It really exposes me to the needs of others and allows me to better see God in people.
