Danny,
You missed the deadline. This should have been logged on amnesty week. Be sure to log things in a timely fashion.

I participated in The Coit Road Farmers market experience with the Gilmour Football Team. During this experience, I was split into a group of people that helped move compost into areas where it could be used in regenerative farming. From start to finish, the experience was about 4 hours long.
Are the service hours you completed COMPETENCE HOURS (learning about social justice issues) or COURAGE HOURS (direct or indirect service to others)?
COURAGE
Which Gilmour charism (Divine Providence, Forgiveness, Hope, Hospitality, Inclusiveness, Option for the Poor, The Cross, Zeal) did you best live out through your service experience? Please explain.
Without a doubt, option for the poor was the Gilmour charism I lived out with my team. I lived out this charism by helping those on the front lines keep healthy food available for the less fortunate and less wealthy.
Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?
I will definitely be doing this service experience again as the football team plans on making this a tradition. I also should state I genuinely enjoyed the activity as it was a great opportunity to bond with my teammates. Overall, I would be excited to do this service again any time.

On our service trip, me as well as numerous Gilmour students went to the city of Oberlin. To start, we learned about the history of the Underground Railroad especially the importance of Oberlin in relation to it. After multiple hours of learning about this, we would go to the community food bank. Here we would package food to be eaten by thousands of people, and we also learned about the importance of community service. To conclude our trip, we went to the city's vast art museum.

I would state Option for The Poor is the charism we lived out best through our multiple hours at the food bank. We did this by showing our care for the less fortunate and helping out those who were hungry in the community.
Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?
I personally probably wouldn't as I think I have seen everything there is to see in Oberlin, but I do enjoy working at food banks specifically, so I will likely go to work at The Greater Cleveland Food Bank in the future.

On November 22, 2024, I participated in the Thanksgiving Food Drive hosted by Gilmour. Upon arrival, me, my mother and my sister were all greeted by multiple students including some I personally knew. After they loaded up our car with the food, we proceeded to head towards our delivery spot which I believe was a family center somewhere in Cleveland's city proper.

Which Gilmour charism (Divine Providence, Forgiveness, Hope, Hospitality, Inclusiveness, Option for the Poor, The Cross, Zeal) did you best live out through your service experience? Please explain.
Although I lived out multiple charisms during this experience, I would say I definitely lived out option for the poor the best. By simple definition, option for the poor is showing special care for those who need it most. In this experience, I showed love and care for the less fortunate by helping distribute food to those in my community.
Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?
I certainly would do this experience again and likely will be next year. This service is one of my favorites as I got to really experience the area I was helping out when we were driving to the family center. Although I did not have much interaction with that community through directly talking, I was able to still feel the impact I was making.

On August 10, 2023, I participated in The Dorm Help program with the Gilmour Football Team (which I am a part of). During this experience, I was split into a group of people that helped move dormer's furniture and luggage into their rooms in accordance with the dorm administrators. From start to finish, the dorm help was about 2 hours long and came just before football practice.

Which Gilmour charism (Divine Providence, Forgiveness, Hope, Hospitality, Inclusiveness, Option for the Poor, The Cross, Zeal) did you best live out through your service experience? Please explain.
Without a doubt, hospitality was the Gilmour charism I lived out best with my team. I lived out this charism by welcoming dormers to Gilmour and assisting them in the moving process. Just like a host who is hospitable by welcoming guests into his house, I lived this out by welcoming dormers into Gilmour.
Would you try this service experience again? Why or why not?
I will definitely be doing this service again as the football team does this every year as tradition. I also should state I genuinely enjoyed the activity as it was a great opportunity to bond with my teammates. Overall, I would be excited to do this service again any time.

Danny, I really appreciate your honesty. Something I think you might really like, is to do the St. Pat's part of the Thanksgiving Food Drive next year. It was so awesome to jump in with the community and I think you would get what you're hoping for with the connection. What I can say to you is this, what you did that night may not have seemed as relevant, but I assure you it truly matters and makes an impact, so thank you.
On November 29, I visited the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to assist in the packaging of food. Before the trip, I honestly was somewhat bothered by having to do this and did view it as a chore, but part of me also was intrigued and interested to see how this experience would be. During the trip and specifically on the bus, I did get to know the other freshmen better and did enjoy my time with them. As for the actual work at the food bank itself, it went as I expected it to and I wasn't really enjoying it that much. It felt more like I was working a job for a packaging company than really making a difference in the community. In the future, I would love to help The Greater Cleveland Food Bank again, however I believe I would need to actually be able to interact with those who I am helping such as distributing food to the homeless as it would be more impactful to me.
